Crossroads in Time is a late medieval role play set in the fictional world of Tortall, more specifically, in the capital city of the nation, Corus. We have a variety of canon characters to choose from, and an even wider selection of character types in which a person might create their own character.
The year is 570 Human Era, over a century past the time of legends like Alanna the Lioness and Goldenlake the Giantkiller. It's been over five years since the decades-long Tortallan conquest of its neighbors ended, and nearly three years since Richard I took the throne as King.
All is not well in Tortall. Thousands upon thousands of men are dead, an entire generation decimated by the long wars. The nation is destitute, its coffers by and large emptied of monies in order to fund a costly war. In the noble quarters, there is a rift between the conservatives and the progressives, and the battles they wage in Court are fearsome indeed.
In the city proper, controlled chaos is the name of the game. The Court of the Rogue had grown to unprecedented levels of power in the absence of the keepers of the King's Justice, and the return of the guard has not been an occasion of celebration by many rogues. The Provost's Guard, for its part, has only just begun to make a come back, its numbers growing by the year; their return has marked a bitter struggle between those on both sides of the King's Law, one that doesn't seem to have an end in sight.
And if the unrest in the midst of this so-called peace wasn't enough, Tortall is also struggling with a number of societal problems. The practice of slavery in Tortall has taken root, and the issue of where to go with it next has many divided on one side or the other. Tortall's neighbors watch cautiously, wondering what this new generation of leaders will do, and how it will be done.
The future is uncertain, and once again, the mortal realm is experiencing a crossroads in time. What the future holds, not even the great gods can say for certain.
