It had only really been a few days since the school had officially opened for 'business', as it were, but Laurie had settled in much as she had anywhere else; quietly and without any outward notice whatsoever. She kept to herself, purposefully and avoided any direct social contact with anybody. For the majority of her life, this is how she'd lived. It was, in her young teen years, mostly because of her power but more recently, it had been out of habit.
Consciously, she had begun to feel the strain of loneliness, the pull to some form of company and it was starting to pain her quite a bit. Though, living her entire life as a quiet, resigned girl it was a little bit difficult to just jump into being social without the slightest hint of stress or social anxiety.
Her attempt to acclimatize herself to social situations currently extended so far as sitting in the commons at her school and new home, reading a book. The noise of her peers buzzing around her, playing pool or video games, or poker or what have you.
Currently, she was reading a very fresh copy of 'Fight Club', having heard an awful lot of buzz about the movie, she'd been moderately curious as to whether it was actually any good, or if the author was as good as he'd been accredited. She'd been impressed but not altogether blown out of the water. Still, she needed to finish it, regardless.
So today she sat in the commons, like she did every day so far, reading her book and glancing periodically around the commons, wearing a pair of comfortable boot-cut jeans and a light green t-shirt, adorned with a heavy, short chain around her neck and cross earrings. Her legs were folded beneath her comfortably and she was looking around more often today than usual. It was quite possible that she gather the courage to speak with someone.

Masato yawned as he walked down the hallways, trying to find something to quench his boredom with. It hadn't been a good start for Masato so far, between being behind on unpacking his stuff, and not finding inspiration for his sewing, the young teen was starting to drive himself insane. It had been a long time since he was able to spend time with others his age that wasn't a class or group that his father forced him in, and that was one thing to keep him from going insane. A whistled tune escaped him as he continued down the hallway until the sounds of the commons grabbed his attention. "Ah the sound of carefree chaos, there's nothing like it." Turning into the room, Masato's eyes turned to try and find someone to meet. His eyes turned to the group of students playing video games, and decided to pass on that. He had first hand experience on why it's best not to bother some people in the middle of a game. His eyes then shot over the students who were playing cards, and decided to pass. It wasn't until he saw a girl sitting by herself reading that he found out who he was going to try and talk to. Taking a few seconds to try and gather his thoughts, and taking a few notes from where he was standing. Huh, Fight Club. He thought back on watching the movie once, but hasn't read the book. It wasn't one of his personal favorite movies, but it had it's merits. Taking a deep breath, Masato walked over to the other student hoping he wasn't bothering her. "Hello there, reading a good book?" Masato smiled as he chimed up, his accent was a little thick despite the classes his father had put him through. ((alright English is in orange, Japanese in Teal. Also here is the Masato for the day. clicky))

Laurie heard the sound of the young man approaching her and looked up, smiling in what she hoped would have been a friendly way. She blinked a moment after he asked his question however, trying to think of an actual answer.
"Well, truth be told,
" she said honestly, shifting in her seat to put her feet on the floor and move to one end of the couch, making room for Masato to sit a respectable distance away from her. Having been so particularly antiscocial, she wasn't incredibly comfortable with the idea of somebody sitting directly beside her. " I'm not incredibly fond of this book, or the style in which the author writes. I was intrigued because the movie hit so big and thought it would be a good, iconic book to read but it's far too gritty for me. Though, I have begun and thus must finish it." She stopped her mini rant and smiled, extending her hand to the young Asian man. " My name is Laurie, it's a pleasure to meet you." She wasn't entirely sure how to continue conversation, she was kind of hoping that Masato would be able to take it from there. Always the nervous young lady, she was adjusting rather well to being where she was, then again she was surrounded by people who had recently been ripped from their homes, willing or unwilling to be a part of this new school for the gifted. And gifted they were indeed. One thing was for certain; they all had some learning about themselves to do now. Whether control or pushing their limits or even simply personal growth, they all had some soul searching to do.[/blockquote]

Masato couldn't help but smile as Laurie looked up to him with a friendly smile. He was afraid that he was interrupting her book, the last thing he wanted to do be was an interruption.
Tilting his head as she spoke, Masato had a feeling about those words. Taking a seat on the other side of the couch, after she pulled to the other end. He listened politely as she gave her opinion on the book. It sounded familiar to him, out of the books that he read it reminded him of a select few that he had powered through. "Reminds me of the time I read Battle Royal." He remembered the book full heartedly, wanted to read it after he had seen the movie.
Shaking her hand, Masato smiled as Laurie introduced herself. "It's nice to meet you too, I'm Masato." He leaned back as he tried to think of something to talk about. "To tell the truth I was more a fan of comedic or historical novels. The occasional horror story is nice too."
A smile came back to his face, as he remembered the last time he had delve into a good book. It wasn't long before his mind started to wander, and a thought popped into his head. "If you don't mind me asking what kind of books do you prefer?"

"I haven't read that,
" Laurie mumbled slightly after he mentioned Battle Royale, and she wouldn't have even known it was a movie. She nodded as he explained that he was more a fan of comedic or historical novels, taking in the information and thinking through the library she had organized in her head to things he might like, but got slightly distracted as he went ahead to ask what kind of books she preferred. Thinking a moment, Laurie sat down her book, placing a pink book mark between the pages and closing it and ran a hand through her hair momentarily. " I'd like to say that I'm a fan of fantasy but Tolkien is the only author I actually consider fantasy that I enjoyed," she said thoughtfully, trying to choose her words carefully as she continued. " Really, I think I like the more realistic tales, or perhaps the slightly supernatural. Not Vampires, but there was one in particular about a fallen angel that was quite good... I can't for the life of me remember the name at the moment..." She thought a little bit longer, but to no avail. Her mind was a blank. She sighed lightly and smiled back at Masato. " Any particular interests you wish to share? There isn't much I partake in outside of reading, currently." It was the honest to God truth. Laurie watched few movies and fewer television shows, she kept to herself and didn't socialize, she really only did read and write. Perhaps she was a little bit one dimensional.[/blockquote]

"Not surprised, it's kind of what the Hunger Games would have been like if written by an Asian in the late eighties." He smiled as he couldn't think of any other way to explain the book.
Watching as Laurie had placed the bookmark in the book before closing it, Masato listened to her explain which books were the types that she liked. His mind raced on the various books she was describing, taking note to see if there was anything else that would catch his attention.
Masato tapped his index finger against his chin as he thought, trying to come up with something other then reading. "Well aside from the pages bound together, I enjoy music, scifi shows, and really just about anything with a good story. He tried to think about anything else, but today seemed at an off day for the teen. It was then that his mind came to something.
"Well I also like to sew." Rubbing the back of his sheepishly as he talked, he wasn't used to telling people about this side of him, but at least it give him a bit of a freeing feeling to be able to talk about it with out his father glaring over his shoulder. Shaking the thoughts from his mind, he only hoped that it didn't freak out Laurie.
