Victory was adjusting to life in the USA quite well, but she had a like room mate to deal with and help her through her hardships here. Or at least someone who understood what it was like to be in a new country.
They'd wandered down to the pool together, Tory wearing her black bikini, her hair hardly styled, just a little messy and she was just climbing into the water. It was cold and unpleasant at first and of course, as is the case with swimming pools, she got used to it and began to do laps. She loved the water.
There was something about the way that it rippled that reminded her of how she used to hide in the mirrors at home before she got shipped off to the States. It was alright though, as much resentment as she harboured about it she was doing alright here. It wasn't even like she really needed that much help learning to control it because, well, just don't walk into a freaking mirror, but she did need help to reach her full potential. She knew that.
Swimming through the water in her comfortable black bikini was just one of those things, it brought her back to a simpler time and she needed that right now.
Tory swam to the edge of the pool and looked at her roommate, smiling.
"How is water treating you today, Terry?
" she said in a happy tone. " Reminds me of home. I do not wish to leave this place!" Tory laughed, clearly joking because she knew sooner or later she would get bored and cold, wanting her clothes and maybe to explore the grounds some more.[/blockquote]

Swimmin' gears
Terry hadn't really gotten to know her new roommate. True they had spoken some, especially both being immigrants to this country. It was nice to see someone else who was just as unfamiliar, if not moreso, with some of the things around them. But of course the shy redhead never said much, always afraid of causing someone harm. Or worse entrancing them. She prayed that she could figure out a way to fix that at least. If she couldn't sing anymore, then so be it, but being mute for the rest of her life just wasn't an option.
Tory had suggested the pool, and Terry had hastily agreed. Having done so with words they now needed new light fixtures in their room. She had slipped that little note under Mr. Worthingtons office door with an express apology. Of course that was after she still managed to find all of her swim gear in the dark, as well as the pair of shoes she had bought her first night in New York City. They were too perfect not to buy. True their coloring didn't match the coloring of her suit, but she didn't care. They were sharks. And Terry was an avid lover of all things dealing with the sea.
If her nautical sense of style wasn't a dead give away her swimsuit would be.
The one piece fit her small frame smoothly, showing off the slight feminine curve of her womanly structure. But Terry could honestly care less about that. She was more in love with the fact that it looked like the head of a shark was swallowing her for lunch. It had been the perfect swimsuit for her, but she hadn't used it since leaving Ireland.
As they entered the swimming area together Terry first removed her shoes. They weren't pool material, but the chance to wear two shark themed articles had been too great. She then found a dry pool chair, setting the deep blue towel on it and setting her shoes on the plastic table next to it. Last, but not least, she removed the locket from around her neck. It held the last four leaf clover she'd found in her garden back home. A collector of clovers, this one had to come with her. She was certain someone would make a comment about it sooner or later, especially once they heard the accent. But regardless it was her keepsake, and as such incredibly important to her.
Once that was all squared away she grinned as she watched Tory move into the water. Immediately moving to do laps. She moved towards the deep end, standing on the edge. Once Tory was at the other end of the pool she dove, head first, into the chilly water. Her body shivered beneath the waves, and as she came up for air she shook a bit waiting to grow used to the odd temperature.
But even while she shivered she found the feeling of the rippling water against her skin to be soothing. It reminded her of the ocean, and sailing, which she desperately missed. She missed sailing out to the edge of what seemed like the end of the world and letting her voice fly. It was true freedom.
Tory swam to the edge of the pool as Terry let her body float along the surface of the water. Her glimmering blue eyes closed as a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. "Aye could live'ere." She uttered softly, the lights flickering slightly overhead. But she didn't even notice, this time, relaxing in the current of the pool. "Aye 'ave missed me dae's'n tha water." She marveled through a sigh.
And for once, the lights had no change.

Tory hooked her legs on the edge of the pool and leaned back, floating her torso out flat against the top of the water as Terry spoke. There was something odd about right now, something just soothing and entrancing. Perhaps it was the water, perhaps it was the fact that her and her roommate were both silently bonding over being in a similar situation, perhaps it was simply the quiet, but something within Tory settled.
Heaving a deep sigh, Tory eventually hauled herself up to sit on the edge with her feet dangling in as she looked to address her roommate. "Terry, I know you are shy, and nervous much to speak, but I would like very much for to learn more about you,
" she said in her sweet and heavy accent, her sing song voice ringing out over the water despite her low volume. " I think there is much we could help one another with, da? Perhaps together we can learn control and tactics?" Tory swung her feet in the water for a few moments, brushing her hands through her wet hair and slicked it back against her head. She brought her hands to rest on either side of her knees and looked out over the pool once more. It was so lovely here, but it would probably never feel like home. Tory felt lost, a girl without country. It was terrifying and liberating. She wondered idly if Terry felt the same way. " Prosti, I am sorry if I have stepped out of line..." she muttered a barely audible apology because she simply wasn't sure how to conduct herself around Theresa yet.[/blockquote]

Ruth sat up and stretched her arms over her head in her room. Blinking her eyes she looked around, glancing at the clock. It was about an hour later than she thought it should have been, and her book was on the floor. She berated herself mentally. She had stretched out on her bed and flicked on the bedside lamp with the intention of reading for a bit, but she realized now that she must have fallen asleep. She felt a bit guilty about that, but it was time to go and get some exercise in. Why she was still keeping almost the exact same regimented schedule she had lived by in her homeland was beyond her. Old habits just faded slowly, or so she supposed.
Rolling out of bed she got to her feet and then moved to her closet. She still didn't have a roommate, but assumed one would be assigned shortly. So she had refrained from claiming the second closet. Not that she had enough stuff to need that much space anyway. Opening the door she stuck her head inside and retrieved her suit. What it lacked in flashiness it made up for in utilitarianism. The Israeli teen quickly changed into the suit and topped it with a pair of gym shorts and a basic t-shirt. Draping a towel around her neck she padded from her room and headed in the direction of the pool.
Slipping into the pool Ruth was mildly disappointed to see others were in their already. She liked to have the pool to herself. But, as long as they stayed out of her way while she got in her two mile swim their wouldn't be any problems. Finding a chair the Israeli teen stripped off her shirt and shorts and dropped them on top of her simple white towel before moving to the diving board, acknowledging the other two girls with a simple wave of her hand, but not speaking.
Climbing the few rungs to the low diving board she walked to the end of the board and turned her back to the rest of the pool and balanced on the balls of her feet on the end of the board. Bouncing slowly, without leaving her feet she eventually leaped off the board executing two backwards somersaults with a half twist before straightening out to enter the water in a dive and begin her laps.
When she hit the water there was the familiar instant feeling of chill which raised small goosebumps along her arms. The teen's body quickly adjusted to the water though as he head broke the surface of the water and she began a basic swimming stroke. Reaching the end of the lane she tucked into a ball, somersaulted in the water, planted her feet against the wall, and pushed off hard. She made it nearly halfway through the next lap before she surfaced for air again, mostly thanks to the super strength that was one of her mutant abilities.

Terry let the feeling of being carried by water envelope her. It soothed her to the core and for once she didn't feel so jumpy. She smiled to herself, almost daring to hum. But knowing Tory was here and vulnerable to her voice she refrained. Even without words her voice was still dangerous. Tory seemed to join her simply becoming one with the water. But her Russian roomie called her name, catching her attention. Those blue eyes drifted open and she sank into the water, soaking her hair. She looked at the fellow foreign student feeling it was such an interesting coincident that they would be roomed together. Both aching to go home. They got a long well, at least so far, and Torys sudden interest in her only made her more hopeful for a friendship.
The red head sank into the water, only her nose and eyes visible as she spoke of talking. She wanted to, terribly. Terry wanted to get past this terrible fear of speaking. She nodded however, lifting her mouth out of the water to whisper. "Aye don'mind Tory.. Jus try'n keep anythin teh a yey'r ney, aye?" She smiled at her roomie, wishing she could elaborate, that she could help her as she wished they could do for each other.
It was a few minutes later that the she apologized, thinking she had passed her boundaries and Terry couldn't help but laugh. She lights above them flickered and the glass whined. She looked up and shook her head, "Ney, lass. Ye've not stehpped out o'line. I jus fear wat could'appen if'n we tried to help thes pro'lem o'mine.." She said softly, the lights only dimming. She was about to try and reassure her roommate when a third person entered the pool area.
She didn't say a word. She didn't even make eye contact with them until she was upon the dive boards, preparing for a dive. Terry watched her in awe, impressed at her smooth entry. Immediately Terry clapped her hands, letting out a whistle. She cringed, hoping it didn't hurt anyones ears. She sank back into the water, half wishing she could just become the liquid that surrounded her.
"Mother Mary save meh.." She muttered beneath the water.

Tory listened intently as Terry spoke, but watched carefully as another girl entered the room. The grace with which she entered the pool was a little bit distracting, but Tory couldn't bear to tear her attention away from Terry.
The young mirror manipulator took note of how suddenly nervous Terry was to speak, and knew that conversation would be minimal. She'd only pushed as much as she had because they were alone and she did want to help the girl to be more comfortable here. It was tough adjusting to America but she could barely speak to make it any easier, due to her powers.
Looking back at Terry from the clearly strong swimmer, she smiled gently when she heard Terry mumble something beneath the water's edge.
"Terry, there is place we could try,
" she said over the sound of splashing water. " Perhaps there is Danger Room beyond the mirrors?" The idea had come to her in a moment of clarity. She knew that she could duplicate a reverse version of a building within the mirrors, but she wondered if they would be able to access the Danger Room through that means, as it would be the safest place for Terry to try to learn control without trapping them there.[/blockquote]

OOC: I apologize for the shortness of this, but Sabra's not really the most outgoing girl in the world.
Ruth continued to swim her laps in the pool, largely ignoring the presence of the other two girls that were in there with her. For starters, the Israeli girl didn't know either of them. Second, she was in the middle of a workout which precluded polite chitchat even if she had been so inclined. Which, both at the moment and in general, she was not. New surroundings took time to get used to, especially when they came with such life changing consequences.
As her hand made contact with the side of the pool at the conclusion of the final lap she paused in the water, resting her forearms on the side of the pool as her legs treaded the water. After a few moments of sitting in the water and cooling down after she had finished her laps the Jewish girl hoisted herself out of the pool and padded back along the side of the pool in the direction of the diving boards, stretching her arms and legs as she walked.
