:: PERSONALITY ::
Delphine is a strong willed, independent, and free spirited girl. She seems to be a lot like the water that her powers seem to control. The blonde will roll with the punches, do as she wants, and has been known to rush by, sweeping people off their feet. She seems to make friends easily enough, and can be quite the charmer when she wants to be. She tends to be upbeat and full of energy, typically accompanied by a warm smile and a cheery disposition.
Delphine’s upbringing is a huge factor in why Delphi is the way she is. Her parents’ work with marine life taught her that all life is precious and important. She is pretty intelligent and has a knack for science, especially biology. Her political views tend to be very liberal, and she had no problem with voicing them. This doesn’t mean that the blonde isn’t willing to take a step back, look at the facts, and concede that someone else may have a valid point. She is open minded, and environmentally conscious, but not overly so. If someone was to pick a fight with her over her beliefs though, she would not back down easily, even when backed into a corner. Delphi is loyal to her beliefs, and the people she cares about.
Delphine could be described as stubborn, outspoken, and loud. She doesn’t mind competition, but is not overly competitive. It tends to depend on her mood, but typically she would much rather be outside and be actively doing something with friends. This doesn’t mean that Delphi doesn’t like to have time to herself, where she can just sit back and relax, maybe read a book or three. Some of her favorite things to do are swimming, surfing, hanging with friends, reading, and eating. Things that she doesn’t enjoy include being stuck on dry land, history, being still/quiet for long periods of time, and jerks.

:: MUTATION ::
- ::Aquatic Respiration::
Delphine is able to breathe not simply air, but also when underwater. Her body processes water in a similar fashion to a fish. This allows her to be able to stay underwater for long periods of time without having to come up to the surface.- :: Resistance to extreme pressure ::
Delphine seems to be able to withstand great amounts of pressure without her body being affected. This enables her to be able to dive down into deep waters without having to use any sort of special pressurized device.- ::Hydrokenesis::
Delphine has the ability to control and manipulate water to do as she wishes. This typically manifests as in her manipulation of water in its liquid form. She manipulates the molecules of water, and could potentially make water solidify or turn to its gaseous state. This means that she can use water as a weapon, and make it seemingly appear out of nowhere by pulling water molecules from the vapor in the air into a liquid state.- ::Enhanced Eyesight::
Delphine is able to see in a near absence of light, and her vision is able to remain clear when underwater. However, she is not able to see when there is no light.

:: History ::
Delphine Elizabeth Burris was born on April 1st in Sydney, Australia to Lea and Steven Burris. The pair of marine biologists raised their daughter in Australia, even though it wasn’t either of their home countries. Lea was from Nice, France, and Steven from Denver, Colorado. Delphine grew up in Australia, accompanying her parents as they did their research on the coral colonies of the Great Barrier Reef and the breeding behaviors of the Indo-Pacific Humpback dolphin. Her parents encourage her to pursue the answers to all the questions she had using the scientific method, which didn’t always end up bringing about positive results.
It was not long until Delphi was going out with her parents on the boats as they went to gather data and observations. While they tried their best to keep in the boat when they went on dives, Delphine’s fascination for the ocean and all its contents tended to lead to her attempting to abandon the safety of the boat and join her parents. Lea once attempted to leave Delphine on shore with a babysitter while she went out to gather some observations for her control when she was five years old. When Delphine saw her mother leaving without, she escaped her babysitter and jumped into the water, swimming as best she could in an attempt to catch up with her mother. She managed to swim a considerably far distance for a five year old before being scooped out of the water and onto a boat. Needless to say, her mother was terrified at the news, while her father found out, he laughed at his daughter’s resilience.
After that incident, Delphine became an unofficial assistant to both her parents’ research and accompanied them on ALL their trips out, providing that they were not during school hours. Delphi found school to be boring, and the only parts she liked were her friends and when she finished with school for the day. She asked many times if she could be home schooled by her parents, who insisted that she would benefit from the social interaction, pointing out how much she enjoyed spending time with her friends. Delphi had to admit, she enjoyed spending time with her friends. When not helping her parents with their research or in school, the blonde could be found either swimming, on a surfboard, or hanging with her group of friends.
Her childhood was seemingly normal, for the most part. That was up until puberty came around. Delphine experienced the normal aspects of puberty, growing taller, and starting look more like a woman than a little girl. But, there were things that she experienced which should looking back, were her powers manifesting themselves. The first thing was that when she was 11, she noticed that her eyesight was still clear when she fell off her surfboard after a wipeout into the ocean. She also began to notice her eyesight in the dark was better than it had been. When she asked her friends if they experienced the same thing, they all would just say no and say she must have really good eyesight. So, she shrugged it off. When the pipes burst in the girl’s lavatory after she got in a fight with another girl as school, Delphine wrote that off too.
Odd things continued to happen when Delphine got emotional around water. Pipes would burst, water fountains would squirt people, water to start to boil, and such occurrences started her friends in calling a naiad as a joke. Delphine didn’t mind her new nickname, she would laugh and smile as she would retort about they were just jealous of being simple mortals. Nothing seemed too odd about her though for a few years. She was just another teenaged girl who attended a selective school, hung out with her mates, and enjoyed surfing.
That was, until the fateful day Delphine went out surfing with her friends. It was a normal day, and seemed to be just like any other day at first. Delphi had been doing pretty well, and took on a rather impressive wave. The wave got the better of her, and she ended up getting swept under after being knocked clean off her board. Delphine got caught in the undertow, and to her surprise, she wasn’t drowning at all. In fact, she was still breathing just fine even though she was underwater. As soon as she had gotten a handle on her breathing and which way was up, Delphi started propelling herself up towards the surface. It was only when she reached the surface and then started rising above it that she realized the water was propelling her upwards. She fell back onto the water’s surface when the geyser of water propelling her disappeared. The sudden burst of water from the ocean had managed to catch the attention of a nearby boat, which picked Delphine up, and took her back to shore.
The incident had grabbed the attention of the local news, and while Delphine’s family and friends were glad that she was safe, they were not too pleased with the media attention. Although her survival was reported to be a “miracle”, there was the speculation that Delphine was a mutant. Most people seemed to be fine with this, but there were the odd ones who were of the mindset that mutants were dangerous and unnatural. Some went to her school, and would give her grief. Delphi would respond either by ignoring such people, or it would result in some serious water damage, along with the damage Delphi dealt out with her own fists.
It was around this time that a man named Bobby came to visit, and informed Delphine and her parents of a school in the United States for “gifted youngsters”. It was not like the selective schools in Australia though, one of which she attended. It was a school for mutants, like Delphine. After some discussion, it was decided that it would be best for Delphine to attend Xavier’s Institute for Gifted Youngsters. So, she was sent off with her things to America in order to learn how to control her “gifts” while continuing her education.

Footsteps echoed behind Catherine as she ran as fast as she could, wherever she could to get away from the men chasing her. She had been walking back to her apartment after her late class. Of course, she knew that walking through the neighborhood she lived in at night was dangerous. Normally, she would manage to get back before it got dark. However, it had been a lab, and her partner had been a no show. So, she had to track down a classmate who would be willing to simply let her borrow the notes. By the time she’d photocopied the notes and given the originals back to their owner, it was already dark out.
Catherine could hear the men behind her yelling obscene things at her, what they would do to her once they caught her and such. The brunette whimpered and decided that she was never going to take a short cut home again. Her attempt to cut down one alley had ended up in her witnessing three men beating the daylights out of someone. Now, those men were chasing her. Her breathing was more erratic than normal as she ran aimlessly down streets and alleys. Her legs burned from just how much she’d run. The tiny girl knew she wouldn’t be able to keep this up much longer as she turned down into another alley. She came to a halt at a dead end and started looking around in desperation.
There was a shout from one of the men. ”There she is!” Catherine knew she was running out of time. Please please please there has to be some way to get out of here, she thought as she looked at her surroundings. The petite girl knew there was no way she could fight one of those guys, let alone three of them. The only chance she had of making it out of this was to run, but where? There was a brick wall keeping her from running any farther, and she could see the men approaching her.
That was when she spotted it. A fire escape, she could use that to get away. Cat ran over and did her best to jump up and get the ladder to come down. Try as she might, she just wasn’t tall enough and couldn’t get enough height out of her jump to get it down. Her fingers would graze the metal, but her ability to be in the air long enough to wrap her fingers around it wasn’t there. The brunette jumped one last time, and by some stroke of luck, wrapped her fingers around the bottom rung of the ladder. It came loose with a clang, and she fell as the ladder descended.
Cat knew she had to get up off the ground. She lay there a bit dazed, staring at the ladder from her back. As she got up and started to climb the ladder, there was a tug on the backpack that was securely fastened to her. Her head hurt and she was still seeing stars, but somehow she managed to cling to the ladder for dear life as one of the men grabbed and tugged at her backpack in an attempt to pull her off the ladder. ”I’ve got her!” He yelled as she could hear the other two men quickly coming to assist him.
Catherine’s heart was beating loudly and rapidly in her chest. Terror filled her as her grip on the ladder loosened and she fell. A high pitched, strangled scream was torn from her throat as everything started to seem different. Cat knew this sensation, this was her aura. Oh god no.. not now, please, no. It wasn’t ever long after she experienced this odd change in her perception of her surroundings that Catherine would have a seizure. Tears fell from her eyes as her backpack was torn from her. There was a sharp pain in her right side as something dug into her flesh. The last things she saw before slipping into the unconscious state that came with her seizures was two figures swooping down. One of them was almost entirely clothed in black. The other was covered in a dark red accented with black. Hazel eyes caught a glimpse of the yellow lining of some aspect of the smaller figure’s attire before falling completely unconscious.
When Catherine came to, she was being loaded onto a stretcher. There was an oxygen mask on her face. Someone was talking to her, but Cat’s ability to focus was shot. She was confused, and did her best to look around. She felt weak, and boy, was she tired. The flashing red and blue lights caught her eye, but one movement on a rooftop caught her eye. There was someone up there, watching. Catherine didn’t have much energy, but she managed to wave her right hand at the person on the roof. It wasn’t much longer till the person disappeared from the roof, and she was being loaded into an ambulance.
Catherine wouldn’t be able to recall much from that night. But the things she would remember would stick in her mind. She was able to remember being chased by those men. The process of having to get stitches where a knife had cut into her side would linger as well. Most of all, she’d remember seeing a flash of yellow as the person on the roof disappeared and the EMT telling her that she’d be ok.
