Having completed her check in process at the Xavier Institute Ruth had returned to her room in the student dormitory area of the Mansion and politely excused herself from further interaction with Matro for the time being. She needed to unpack and settle in and there was no reason that Matro, or any other boy, needed to watch her unpack her things. Especially when those things included undergarments. It would put naughty ideas in their heads and give them the wrong kind of idea about her, something that the conservative Israeli girl was very much against.
Ruth looked at the meager amount of possessions on her bed as she finished unpacking her three bags. There wasn't much to her life beyond those possessions which consisted, mostly, of clothes along with a basic laptop computer, a small iPod, a Hebrew language translation of the Torah, a small chess board, and a few other assorted books along with certain basics like deodorant, toothpaste, and other toiletries. That was it. Her entire life summed up in the contents of three bags that could all fit, with some creative stacking of course, onto one twin sized bed.
It was mildly depressing to be honest.
Sighing, she gathered up her undergarments and put them away first in one of the two small sets of dresser drawers that inhabited the room. She preferred to have those things out of sight and out of mind before anyone else showed up. This was partially due to the utilitarian nature of those garments, and the rest of her clothing, as it had been provided by the government. They weren't big on flash, but they were big on durability and utility. Quickly and efficiently she slid things into their new home for the foreseeable future.

Delphine really hadn’t been sure what to expect from the Xavier institute. She’d been to America before a few times with her parents, mainly to visit her grandparents in Colorado. The blonde didn’t really know what American schools were like, except that most of them, you didn’t live there. So, when she finished checking in, she started towards her assigned room, with her large suitcase, two duffel bags, a backpack, and of course, her longboard. Her parents had tried to talk her out of bringing the surfboard, but Delphi wasn’t going to have any of that. The board stayed with her, it was one of her most prized possessions.
So, when Delphi got to her room, she had a huge smile on her face as she saw there was another girl already in there. She looked nice enough. Delphi parked her suitcase and stood her board up against the wall, setting her bags on the unoccupied bed. Then, she turned to the girl and gave her a smile as she held out her hand. ”G’day. How’s it going? I’m Delphine Burris, but ya can just call me Delphi. I’m from Down Under, in case you couldn’t tell. What’s your name?”

Ruth looked up from her unpacking as the door to her room to admit a blonde girl that looked to be about the same age and build as she was. Interestingly enough she had a surfboard tucked under one arm, an interesting choice since New York was not exactly a surfing hot spot in the United States, at least as far as the Israeli girl knew. Still, to each their own she supposed.
As she continued to store her own limited possessions Ruth watched as the blonde heaved considerably more onto the other bed in the room. Clearly she wasn't hurting or lacking for anything. Of course, Ruth wasn't truly without anything that she needed. She was without any number of things that she wanted, but there was a fine line between want and need and since she had clothing, shelter, a small amount of money, and food she truly had all of her needs covered.
"G’day. How’s it going? I’m Delphine Burris, but ya can just call me Delphi. I’m from Down Under, in case you couldn’t tell. What’s your name?”
"Ruth, Israel," the raven haired Israeli replied, taking the offered hand and shaking it, being mindful of her own strength so as to not crush the blonde's hand when she shook it. She hadn't really needed that much help with the other girl's accent. It had been obvious she was an Aussie, or maybe a Kiwi.
"Things are going fine," Ruth continued, putting some more things away in the dresser drawers. Where on Earth was that surf board going to be stored anyway? "I'm moving in, same as you. Getting ready for a new school year. Those kinds of things."

Delphine knew that New York wasn’t exactly well known for being a great place to surf. In fact, she had heard some not so great things about the water there. Things that kind of pissed her off as to how people could just allow the water to become so polluted. Still, she had to be ready, just in case there was a huge swell or something. So, she just had to bring along her board. Although, her roommate was already giving her, or at least her board, an odd look.
”Israel? Wicked. So, you’re probably Jewish, right? I really don’t know too much bout Judaism, so if I do or say something that you find offensive or you just need time to yourself in here, just tell me. “ She smiled at Ruth, appreciating that her roomie seemed to have a rather impressive handshake. Although, on scanning the room, she noticed that Ruth also didn’t seem to have much, and that made Delphi feel a bit awkward. Honestly, she wouldn’t have brought nearly as much as she did if she hadn’t let her mother help her pack.
The blonde looked around, trying to figure out where her surfboard would go and not get damaged. After a bit of thinking, Delphine moved the dresser that Ruth was not using a bit, and placed the board behind it before moving it back against the wall. ”There we go. Still visible and accesabile, yet out of the way.”
She started to unpack her suitcase first. She removed her laptop carefully, along with its charging cord and the adapter she brought because American outlets were different. Then, she put away her underwear, which was pretty cute, even the ones that were just either black, white, or nude. Her swimsuits went in next to her underwear, seeing as how they were mostly bikinis, one pieces, or board shorts to go over. As she put her clothing away, Delphi constantly came across odd items such as bug spray, a first aid kit, and a ball of yarn. She sighed as she looked at the yarn and started speaking in French to herself. ” Maman, je n'aime même pas tricoter. Que pensiez-vous?” She looked at Ruth, holding up the knitting needles and yarn. ”You wouldn’t happen to like knitting, would ya?”

"Israel? Wicked. So, you’re probably Jewish, right? I really don’t know too much bout Judaism, so if I do or say something that you find offensive or you just need time to yourself in here, just tell me."
'Believe me, I will,' the raven-haired Israeli girl thought to herself, picking up the drab green sea bag and folding it up before sticking it under her bed. Of course, she didn't just open her mouth and say it, that would have been a bit rude. At the same time, she wasn't going to put up with attacks against herself or her religion or her nationality.
"Yes, I'm a practicing Jew," Ruth replied, moving back to the clothing piled in neatly folded piles on her bed and gathering up a few shirts which she placed in the drawer. "I'm willing to return the favor too, if you need a private place."
"There we go. Still visible and accessible, yet out of the way.”
Ruth stopped in her unpacking for a moment to watch the Australian girl put the surf board back and out of the way. At least she wasn't planning on leaving the thing out in the middle of the floor. In truth, Ruth was wondering if maybe the board wasn't some kind of security blanket for the foreign girl. Ruth shrugged a response to Delphine's remark as the blonde put the board behind her dresser.
"Maman, je n'aime même pas tricoter. Que pensiez-vous? You wouldn’t happen to like knitting, would ya?”
Ruth stopped in her unpacking, momentarily, to watch Delphine curiously for a moment as she spoke in French. The Jewish girl recognized the language as being French, but she had no idea what it was that Delphine had just said as French wasn't one of the languages that she knew all that well. Then there was a question about knitting, of all things.
"No, I'm not much of a knitter," Ruth replied, returning to the chore of putting her limited belongings away. "Why do you ask?' With that remark Ruth finished putting her clothing away and moved on to the other items, sliding the laptop into the drawer of her nightstand, putting the Torah and iPod on top of the nightstand, putting the chessboard down on top of her dresser, and putting the rest of her books away on the shelf above the clothing rack in her closet.
That was that, she was all unpacked. Returning to her bed she dropped onto it with a soft grunt. Nothing else to do now other than chat and be amicable with her new roomie. Still, small talk wasn't generally Ruth's strong suit.
"So," she began, fishing around for a conversation topic, "what's Australia like?"
