:: PERSONALITY ::
Roberto is typically a rather laid back and easy going individual. He tries not to let too many things get to him and affect him, to let life come to him as it may. Like more than a few other mutants he enjoys a good practical joke, even if it's at his own expense. He's not super difficult to get along with and, typically, works well with others.
Roberto also displays a good amount of the alpha male personality. He can be extremely competitive and he does not like to lose. Given that he's in line to succeed his father at the CEO of the largest corporation in Brazil this a good trait to have. However, it can be something that others can find off-putting, obnoxious, and less than pleasant. It can also cause Roberto to be extremely stubborn and to continue pressing forward when a withdraw would be more prudent.
Roberto has also been known to display what might best be described as fiery Latin passion. While usually laid back and easy going when he becomes angry Roberto can become extremely short sighted to the point of charging blindly into a given situation. He has a lot of confidence, to the point of over confidence, in his powers and abilities. When angry this can cause him to not evaluate the situation objectively and, instead, to simply charge in swinging while disobeying orders from those in charge.
Being from Brazil Roberto has a somewhat different view of mutants than most Americans. As is often the case when it comes to these sorts of civil rights issues Brazil is ahead of the U.S. While mutants are still somewhat feared by certain segments of society in Brazil they do not face the same kind of legal issues as mutants in the U.S. While the way mutants are treated in the U.S. is something that he does not agree with it's also not necessarily something he's prepared to go down fighting on since, thanks to his money and status, it's not something that really affects him.

:: MUTATION ::
- :: Solar Energy Absorption ::
Roberto can absorb and store solar energy. This energy can be converted, at will, into physical strength. When powered up his physical resistance to impact is also increased and his skin becomes jet black. Sunspot also has the ability to absorb energy from other stars and reflected solar energy from the moon, however, this does not add to his abilities in an appreciable way and is far less effective than direct solar absorption from the sun. All of his other powers and abilities are a direct result of his solar absorption.- :: Flight ::
Sunspot has developed the ability to use the solar energy he absorbs for flight. As long as he is in sunlight he can remain in the air indefinitely. Simple fatigue prevents permanent flight, but it is a theoretical possibility.- :: Energy Blasts ::
Sunspot has the ability to project concussive blasts from his hands. These blasts consist of a light and heat projection. Launching these blasts behind him is what allows him to fly. However, despite his ability to generate energy blasts Sunspot only retains, at best, a small increase in his own durability to withstand such attacks.- :: Super Strength ::
The specific use of this ability is what causes Sunspot's body and clothing to turn completely black when powered up. Sunspot maxes out his strength with the ability to bench press fifty tons.- :: Super Heated Body ::
Sunspot can glow bright and hot enough to melt thick snow and ice around his body. His super-heated body can come close to the same heat levels as the Human Torch. This ability also allows him to melt some threats, like bullets, before they touch him.

:: History ::
Roberto da Costa's father, Emmanuel da Costa, is the wealthiest private citizens in all of Brazil and his mother, Nina, is an American archaeologist. Growing up as the child of both an American citizen and a Brazilian citizen has caused Roberto to be fully fluent in both English and Portuguese, though even if his mother had been Brazilian his father would have insisted that Roberto learn English since it's a major international commerce language and being bi-lingual was something that would be important for Roberto once he inherited the family business.
Roberto's mutant gifts became apparent at the age of fourteen, while playing in a championship soccer match for his school team in Rio de Janiero. Two players from the opposing team knocked Da Costa to the ground which led the hot tempered Brazilian to retaliate by tackling one of the players. The other player succeeded in pinning Roberto to the ground and began to beat him. It was then that Roberto's powers first became available for his use, namely his superhuman strength. Roberto used this newly discovered skill to hurl the other boy off of him. Shocked by this Roberto sought help but was shunned by almost everyone with only his girlfriend, Juliana Sandoval, and father remaining by his side.
At the conclusion of high school, on his eighteenth birthday, Roberto began his one year fulfillment of the mandatory year of military service required of all Brazilian men. Though many got exemptions Emmanuel felt that it would be good for his son to go through the short service. The hope was that the service would force the young playboy to grow up and learn to control his anger a bit better. The plan worked, in a manner of speaking, though at the conclusion of his year of service Roberto left the Brazilian Army with no intention of ever returning.
Following the conclusion of his hitch in the Army Roberto was enrolled at Harvard University after his father bought his son's way in to the prestigious American University. While at Harvard Roberto made a number of contacts that would prove useful later in life when he assumed a position of authority within his father's business. While in college he pursued courses of study that were very heavy in International Business. At the conclusion of the Bachelor's Degree he completed a Master's Degree in Business Administration, also at Harvard.
Following the conclusion of his education Roberto became his father's protege in the family business, assuming the number two role within the company. While in South America running the family business he invested heavily in the Venezuelan Oil Industry, as Venezuela is the third leading oil producer in OPEC it seemed like a sound investment. Those adventures in the Venezuelan oil business have paid off in a big way. As a result Roberto has decided, with his father's blessing, Roberto has lately been pursuing expanding the family business into America and taking frequent trips to pursue what he hopes will be lucrative international business ventures in the U.S.
