Vidar stood out on the grounds by the downed tree in the mid-afternoon sunlight, the warm rays beating down on his form as the day ticked lazily onward towards evening. Vidar had chosen this time specifically because he hadn't been allowed to pick the early mornings and, after that, the afternoon was one of the times that students would least want to be tied up since they weren't in class. Dolly and Julian were being punished, oh were they being punished. Punishment was not supposed to be enjoyable and Vidar was quite certain that the blue haired girl and telekinetic teen would rue the day they'd stepped out of line as egregiously as they had. Neither yet knew the full punishment schedule, but they soon would.
Slowly he paced back and forth in his combat boots, forest digital fatigues, and brown t-shirt in front of the gear he had laid out for use as his feathers rustled. A pair woodcutter's axes, two hatchets, two pair of work gloves, and three canteens filled with water that the sun's afternoon rays were rapidly warming from cold to warm. And, of course, there was a chair for him to sit and supervise. If they were lucky, toed the line, and didn't mouth off, by the end he'd let them use a chainsaw for the heavy duty work. If not... well, axes had been used to reduce trees to splinter for centuries, hadn't they?
Glancing down at his watch the avian man's eyes narrowed. It was 1515. They were supposed to be out here right now, he had been explicitly clear about that fact. The pair of them would work for four hours. After that both would have just enough time to eat and do homework before going to bed. This schedule would last for three weeks or until they had completely dealt with the tree, whichever came last.
At last he heard the sounds of the two teens clomping over the grounds. Hopefully they'd followed directions and worn something suitable for working in. If not, well, neither would make that mistake a second time either. When, at last, both were standing in front of him in the afternoon light Vidar looked down at his watch and then looked up and scowled from behind his Oakley's.
"You're two minutes late. I won't add to your punishment for that, today. In the future I will be adding a day to your punishment for every three minutes that you are late," he said, tapping his watch with a taloned finger to make his point. "I'd suggest you synchronize your watches to my own." Stepping over to the tools he picked up the work gloves and the hatchets which he passed to Dolly expecting her to pass the spares to Julian.
"You will work from now until 1900 hours at which time you will be released to clean up, eat, do homework and sleep. That will be your Monday through Friday. On Saturdays I expect you to be on this spot by 0700. You will work until 1900 with three fifteen minute breaks and an hour for lunch to do with what you will. Sundays you will not have to work, but you will have to report to either Logan or myself, face to face, every three hours."
"For the duration of your punishment your privileges of leaving the Mansion grounds have been revoked. Not that this matters as you will have no free time anyway. This will continue until you have either completed reducing this tree to chunks suitable for a bonfire, and built the pyre, or for three weeks. Whichever comes last. I got my way and Julian is out here with you Dolly, lucky you," the Norwegian continued, speaking with military precision as he stood in front of Dolly and watched her pull on the gloves as he flashed a none too pleasant smile at Julian.
"Your time with me will be extended, per specifications, relating to your tardiness. Believe me when I say I can find plenty of work for you both to do. You will not be allowed to use your powers to aid you in the accomplishment of your task. You will not talk back to me, nor will you put one finger nail out of line while you are being punished. Work well, and you will be treated well... I'm sure I could find a chainsaw around here somewhere, or perhaps find it in my heart to allow your ghosts and telekinesis to help you..." he said, grinning down at Dolly and Julian in the way a spider might grin at a fly. "Work badly and you'll both use those hatchets for the entire chore that you have been assigned."
"For today you will begin by stripping the smaller limbs from the larger branches and piling them up for use as kindling in the bonfire. The canteens on the ground is filled with water for your use." He picked up the folding chair he had brought along, opened it, and settled his large frame into it. "If you understand everything you have been told you may begin."
